70s Party or 70's Party or Seventies Party

How to Throw a 70's Party

People say if you remember the '60's you weren't there. Yet it is the '70's that changed the way people think. The clothes were different. The attitudes were different. Even the music and dance became more electric. Who could forget John Travolta dancing to “Stayin' Alive”? It was a decade of self exploration and discovery. People enjoyed the '70's more than any other decade. Bring the memories back by throwing your own 70's party.

The first thing you will need is a disco ball. This mirror covered sphere cast the light and set the mood for many dance floors in the 70's. You can do the same thing by adding one to the party setting of your home. Either suspend the disco ball from the ceiling or let it sit on a base. Turn on the lights and let them reflect all over the room.

When throwing a 70's party you can not forget the dress. Each guest should come in their 70's clothes. This may be the hippy style or the polyester suit with the wide lapels. The blouses were gauze with the angel sleeves. Some people called them bell bottom sleeves. The jump suit was also popular. However, it was the bell bottom pants that everyone remembers. Don't forget the platform shoes and the newsboy hats. Long hair and beads were popular with those people classified as part of the hippy generation. The peace symbol was important in the dress as well.

The music may be hard to come by but there are CD's you can get that include some great 70's music. Songs like “Car Wash” and “Disco Inferno” are a must. The 70's also had great music from the BeeGee's like “Night Fever”. Sister Sledge and Gloria Gaynor had awesome hits like “We Are Family” and “I Will Survive”. Music and dance were one of the most important things in the 70's. More mellow music like “American Pie” and “Maggie May” fit into the hippy style 70's party theme.

There are wall decorations you can put up which will add to the 70's party theme. Banners and wall hangings with bright stripes and glitter are perfect for your party decorations. You can get glitter mylar streamers that can be put up in doorways or just in the corner of the room. This adds to the glitz that was so popular during the 70's. If you are going for the hippy theme, then psychedelic is the way to go with the decorations.

The food is what ever you choose to put on the table. Most people just prefer to put out simple appetizers and drinks. Beverages are an important part of any party but especially one where people are going to be dancing the night away. The guests will want to refresh themselves once they leave the dance floor. You can serve punch, flavored waters, and more. If you are going to serve alcohol you need to make sure to hold onto the guest's keys or supply designated drivers.
